Stöckli "30-Second" ski reviews: new for 2008

Rotor 70 Edition
One of our favorite skis last season was the original all mountain Rotor 76—which is returning unchanged—and this new 70mm model is just as exciting for high speed hard and groomed snow technical skiers. It is a superb carver, very quick, Stöckli-smooth, as stable as any 14m ski we have seen and, most importantly, serious fun. Can serve well as recreational race ski for Nastar.

Laser GS
Unlike the slalom, which meets new F.I.S. specs, the GS is a GS-like ski for recreational racers and high speed carvers. Our high level testers loved it, but noted that modern carving skill is an absolute requirement. This ski must be skied, not rode upon. Great Masters GS ski.

Laser SL
The real deal—F.I.S. legal slalom ski. Ski it short, tight, hard, quick, energetically and with clean technical skill. In other words, in gates or in steep hard snow fall lines.

Sinox Edition Light
Stöckli describes the Light as a "comfort-oriented all mountain women's ski." Our testers agreed. Typical comments: "Great high intermediate to advanced cruiser." and "Zippy, yet easy to ski. Relaxed. Smooth." This is a good ski for either beginning carving skill building or relaxed recreational cruising. Not for fast skiers, will likely be outgrown in a season or two by technical aspirants.

Stormrider XL Edition
Versatile all mountain ski. Not quite as solid as the XXL for true deep snow prowling, but broader all mountain applicability, easier to handle, more forgiving and with a wider speed range.

Stormrider XXL
Big, solid, bomb-proof all mountain, steep and deep ski that handles remarkably nimbly on the groomed and is unshakable in deep or broken snow. Good choice for 1-ski quiver for strong skiers who spend more than 50% of the time off the groomed.
